Humpback whales are magnificent creatures that have graced our oceans for millions of years. They were nearly driven to extinction by commercial whalers 50 years ago, but today, because of an international ban on whaling, are making a slow but steady recovery.  Yet humpbacks still face many threats including ocean debris, increasing shipping traffic, and the effects of climate change on their habitat.   You can help the humpbacks of the world by supporting organizations dedicated to whale conservation and ocean education.

Whale Trust Maui

Whale Trust Maui is a nonprofit organization dedicated

to scientific research and public awareness of whales

and their environment. Based on the Hawaiian Island

of Maui, Whale Trust conducts and supports marine

research and education programs around Maui and

elsewhere throughout the Pacific Ocean.

Ocean Alliance

Ocean Alliance strives to increase public awareness

of the importance of whale and ocean health through

research and public education. We work with our

scientific partners to collect a broad spectrum of data

on whales and ocean life. Ocean Alliance uses this data

to advise educators, policy makers, and the general public on wise stewardship of the oceans to mitigate pollution, prevent the collapse of marine mammal populations, and promote ocean and human health. Ocean Alliance, Inc., a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit Organization, was founded in 1971

One World One Ocean Foundation

One World One Ocean Foundation uses the

power of giant screen films to educate and

inspire people globally to protect the world’s ocean. The cornerstone of the Foundation’s philosophy is the belief that eco-literacy and lifelong learning are critical to an individual’s development and important to inspiring people to become bold, passionate ocean ambassadors.  One World One Ocean aims for a world of educated people who appreciate and advocate for the ocean, and who realize that the world’s one ocean needs our protection.
